Sue Elliott

Sue retired from the public service just as the 2019–20 bushfires swept across Australia’s east coast.

She has always cared deeply about health and social issues, working at local, state and international levels. But the bushfires were a turning point. They made her realise she hadn’t fully grasped the urgency of climate action—and, more concerningly, that governments hadn’t either, or at least weren’t treating it with the seriousness it demanded.

Getting involved with proACT was a way to take action and push for stronger government leadership on climate. Since then, Sue has become active in other Voices movements across the ACT, working for better local representation and meaningful progress on climate issues.

Sue is married to Laurie and has two children who grew up in Canberra. She is a keen knitter, dragon boat racer, and skier (when her knees allow it).
